When Renda Abdo isn’t overseeing operations at the three restaurants she operates in Toronto, she heads east three or four days each week to check in on her latest business acquisition. The two-acre lakeside property at the west end of Wellington’s Main Street enjoys 300 feet of waterfront. From its vantage point overlooking the gleaming water of Lake Ontario, the golden sands of Sandbanks sparkle in the near distance as the warm lake water laps at the rocky shoreline. Visitors can take a canoe out, sit and watch the world go by at the water’s edge…

In 2018, she bought an old 10-room budget lodge in Wellington and renovated it into the Lakeside Motel, which opened in May of 2019. Here’s her story…

Our next stop is The Lakeside Motel in Wellington, Prince Edward County(PEC). When we visit in the first week of October, we’ve just missed what appears to have been a booming summer season, much of which I watched on Instagram while whispering, “soon, my pretty-soon.” With its sparkling pool and restaurant patio overlooking Lake Ontario – and the fact that the main building runs perpendicular to the street as opposed to facing it – Lakeside feels more private and resort–y than you might expect from a roadside joint on the main drag.
